Starting in the late 1950's, Florence, Kentucky went through a housing boom. Many people moved to the area to work in factories in Cincinnati and thought Boone County was a great place to live. Because there weren't as many houses as families moving to the area, subdivisions were developed around the main town of Florence.
According to the U.S. Census, 5,837 people lived in Florence in 1960. That is a 340.5% increase over the 1950 population of 1,325! By the time the 1960's were over, Florence's population doubled to 11,661. 1)2) Most of the population lived in the new subdivisions.
