What is a StoryWalk?
The StoryWalks® found in Boone County are a perfect way to spend time outdoors while learning and exercising.
Promoting early literacy through fun and interactive activities, a StoryWalk® winds through green space and nature, and contains pages from a children’s book posted along a trail. Each sign displays a page from the walk’s featured story along with an activity or question such as creating a sound, making a physical movement, identifying something in the picture, etc. It also initiates conversation and improves language and literacy skills as families discuss what is happening in the story.
The StoryWalks® in Boone County are a partnership between Boone County Public Library and Boone County Parks as well as a partnership between Boone County Public Library and the City of Florence. The StoryWalks® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library of Montpelier Vermont. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
